We have a wonderful senior adult ministry at our church.  We call it the “Young at Heart” ministry, and they really are young at heart.  I have trouble just keeping up with them!  They do all kinds of things, from monthly potlucks to week-long trips around the United States.

Last Thursday, during the August potluck, we were part of a very special celebration.  Following the meal (which was wonderful, as usual), Bro. James asked everyone to make their way to the sanctuary, where he led those who have been married for fifty or more years in renewing their vows.

What a special time!  Nearly 30 couples met the criteria.  What an amazing statement in a day and time when long marriages are not the norm.  What a testimony to those of us who are younger!

Each of the staff members sang a song that would have been a popular wedding song fifty years ago – and yes, all of our staff members can sing, and sing well!  In case you’re wondering, Chris is singing “O Promise Me.”  (Yes, Anne of Green Gables fans, you know the song!)

Following the service, everyone returned to the gym for wedding cake and punch.

Find Us Faithful

By Steve Green

We’re pilgrims on the journey
Of the narrow road
And those who’ve gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God’s sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who’ve gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives

Chorus:
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
