Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do… John 14:12
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
Being a Christ-follower can be a tricky thing. The Christian life with all of its opportunities for service, fellowship, discipleship, church growth, and on and on can become a great big bag of sorting through what’s a good idea versus what God really has for me at this season and this time.
Never before have we had so many good opportunities right at our fingertips. All you have to do is crack open your church bulletin or Google your favorite ministry and you have a wealth of options from which to choose.
Recently, we pursued a particular ministry idea in a lower-income neighborhood. We put our ideas on paper, but the doors just didn’t open to make it a reality. Without giving you specifics, let me say – the idea was good. You might even say that it seemed like the next logical step in our outreach in this community. I think it’s probably what most people were expecting.
But, for whatever reason, at this time and season, God did not see fit for us to do it.
So, we’re taking a step back. We’re asking God if we have gotten off-track in what He has called us to do. I’m wondering if we have moved away from our original calling to love these people, meet their physical needs, form relationships with them, and bring them to Jesus.
We’re praying about what might be next. We’re revisiting other ideas. We’re asking God to take our personalities and pet projects out of the picture so that He can work through us however He wants.
Would you pray with us?
