Last year, we were putting together this – what turned into two beautiful opportunities for our church to begin to reach outside her walls to the community around us. We had other opportunities through the year in this particular neighborhood … and then the doors that were open to our working in that area closed. Completely shut. Without any explanation.
We were at a loss. We still don’t know what has happened to prevent our working there, but we know we need to move on. There are still hurting, hungry, needy people in our city, and we are going to have to find another way to reach out to them.
A few weeks ago, our student pastor had a beautiful idea – we have a growing food pantry ministry that reaches hundreds of people each month. Why not invite the people who are already coming through our doors to a Christmas dinner, a time we can love on them with the love of Christ and share the Good News of Christ’s coming to live among men with them?
So, that’s exactly what we are doing. Even this week, people who come to our church for food are leaving with something a little extra – an invitation to a feast.
On Saturday evening, December 21, at 6:00 pm, we hope to have a gym filled with people who are hungry – hungry for food to live and for the Good News of Jesus. Will you join us? If you are local and want to help, send me a message. If you are not local but will pray for us, would you leave a comment? We have a lot to do in a short amount of time.
- Pray that God will raise up the right people to help with each area of service.
- Pray that He will bring the harvest to us – that we will have a room full of people.
- Pray that each detail will bring glory to Him and not to us.
- Pray that we can show the love of Christ to those we meet that night.
Can you join with us? I would love to hear from you!
