Henry loves to go to church.  He has been attending church since he was three weeks old, and has been in the nursery since he was six weeks old.  He didn’t take long to begin recognizing where we were, and as soon as I would open the hallway to the nursery area, he would get so excited.  I jokingly tell people that he thinks that everyone at church is there to see him.  He loves to stop and see people along the way to his Sunday School room.

Here’s the thing: As young as he is, he understands that church is a good place.  He knows that there are people there who love and care for him.  His friends are there.  All of this makes church a place that he loves to be.

I sing a little made-up song to him, “I like to go to church. I like to go to church. I like to see my friends at church. I like to go to church.”

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.  Hebrews 10:24-25

Children like Henry can teach us a lot about how our hearts should be oriented toward God and His Church.  Can we say with Henry, “I like to go to church”?
